Fun Intern Moments : Week 1

On the 6th of July, I started my 2 week internship at Aliance Francsie de Lahore (or just AFL). They are the French consulate in Lahore, who organise events and teach French. I’ve spent a week with them so far, so I though I’d make a list of funny things that happened in that time. Some of this is geniunly really amusing. The list goes from funniest, to least funniest.

The girly guy intern (part 1)

On the first day I attended a meeting at Avari with a few others, including the director (Mr. Fabrice) and the intern I’m refering to in the title. He wore a white collared shirt, with a tie and pants. But this was a disguise. Everyone was in the car, when he put his hand in his bag, and pulled out blush. I point this out to him, to which he replied “You want some?” I of course said no. He then went back to rummaging through his bag, and this time pulled out lip gloss. He then proceceded to apply it on his cheekbones with the help of his phone camera app.

Is there more I have to say?

The girly guy intern (part 2)

I and three other guys, including the intern, arrived at Avari around 12:30. This was to set up the hall for french national day. After hours of work, I believe 3:00ish we were done. Between 3-4:30 there was a KFC criminal activity situation (I’ll talk about this later) just because we wanted to eat lunch. Finally it was time for everyone to get ready. I wore my clothes in the morning, so I just opened my hair and applied a little blush. The other guys brought suits from home to wear.

Except the intern guy, of course. He just could not wear clothes he already had at home. He sent his freind earlier that day to buy him a new suit, and new shoes. While we were working in the morning, the friend was sending him pictures of shoes so that he could decide what to buy. About just an hour before the event, he got the clothes, drove back and wore them.

But he wasn’t done yet. As the rest of the office started entering the hall one by one, he applies perfume. This is normal behaviour, as it was mens perfume. Now it just so happens that I wanted to use some perfume, so I asked if its unisex. He then takes out his women’s perfume, the perfume he normally uses at the office (as someone on the side remarked). He then puts on lip gloss for blush once again, and even applies some eyeliner!

KFC Criminal Activity

It was around 3 o’clock on French National Day, well past lunchtime. Everyone in the office who was there agreed to buy KFC. We ordered a family meal with chips through the app, and then the intern I mentioned earlier and I went to collect the order. Both of us had to go outside the gate to receive the KFC because the rider said he could not come inside. (When we asked the guard about this, he said riders were allowed to come inside.) We paid for the order but did not receive a receipt because the payment machine was not working.

We walked back in, and as we were about to enter into the enterance, we were stopped. The guards said KFC is not allowed. So there we were. Standing on the side as if we were caught bringing in a gun. After some discussions and calls, we got permission to go inside, with KFC. But no one can publicly eat KFC in Avari . So all four of us were sat in a tiny bridal changing room to have lunch.

Unhappy Director

On the afternoon of the 3rd day my mom messaged me to ask the director if she (and my Dad) may attend the national french day (RSVP event). I was like ok sure whatever (I didn’t pay much attention because I don’t like listening to those messages where it feels like she’s trying to social network). I continued working when the director came in and asked if I had anything to say. At first I said no, but then I remembered the invites so I inquired about that. He asked why I didn’t speak to him myself. That’s when I found out my mom contacted him directly. He was not pleased about it.

I understand why, I don’t talk too much (espeically when I first meet people). He probably was thinking that asking him something was a way to help me loosen up, and I didn’t take the chance. Also Im literally sitting in the office. At the same time I kind of understand why my mom did that because I didn’t give a proper response to her. Also the event was in two days and she probably thought I would struggle to say it. I felt pretty bad about it at the time but now I’m writing about it in a blog for the whole world to see.

Correct Clock Time Obssession

I’m making him sound crazy in the title but honestly I understand. There really is no point of a clock if its not working. But its still funny when you see the director come in just to throw a clock in a dustbin for not working.

Towards the end of the second day there was a tea party because Mr. Fabrice wanted to share the sweet treats he got from Uzbekistan. At this tea party (held in the library) he told the librarian to fix up the clock. “If there is nothing that can be done to fix it, put it straight into the dustbin” he stated. The next day Mr. Fabrice comes in and asks about the clock. The librarian responds saying that he has checked it, even replaced the batteries and it is not working. The clock was still on the wall, so Mr Fabrice get up on a chair, takes the clock off and trashes it.

This isn’t that funny to be honest but I like the commitment to accurate information (we really, really need that these days with social media).

And that’s the whole list! I hope this was fun to read. If you want to see what the national french day event was like, you can check my post here. Have a good day and bye!
